Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 Specs, Release Date: Benchmark Leak Reveals Major Upgrades

Some of the key features of the upcoming midranger tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 have been uncovered in brand-new benchmark test on GFXBench.

The long-term evolution (LTE) variant of the device was the subject of the test. The details that come from it indicate that there won't be a lot of upgrades from the original in some respects despite being three years apart.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 will inherit its 2014 predecessor's 8-inch display that comes with 1,280 x 800-pixel resolution. An updated appearance is expected, but in keeping in line with the device's rugged nature, it is expected to still be a bit chunky.

Samsung saved the big improvements for the inside as the next-gen Active tablet will have the Exynos 7870 processor as its source of power. It boasts eight cores clocked at 1.5GHz, which should offer improved performance from the original's quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset.

This chipset will also be accompanied by 3 GB of random-access memory (RAM) — double of what the original came in. The storage will stay at 16 GB though.

In the imaging department, users are looking at an 8 MP rear-facing shooter and a 5 MP selfie snapper, which should perform much better than the first Samsung Galaxy Tab Active's 3.15 MP and 1.2 MP combo. The primary camera has full high-definition (HD) video capture as an added perk.

The tablet will have the Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box. There is no word on the size of the battery as well as the pricing and the release date.

However, it should not be long before the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 is made official. This is because it has also already popped by Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is one of the final steps a device goes through before it is rolled out.

FCC determines if a device is safe and ready to hit the stores and the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 has officially earned the regulatory board's approval, which means it should arrive sooner rather than later.
