Samsung Gear A News, Update: Specs for Smartwatch Codenamed Orbis Revealed

While Samsung's upcoming phablet, the Galaxy Note 5, has been getting a lot of attention lately, a new tech report emerged this week pointing out to the South Korean company's first round smartwatch, the Samsung Gear A.

The wearable device, which is being called "Orbis" by insiders, is assumed to be unveiled alongside the Note 5 and probably the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus this Aug. 12.

In a report from SamMobile, details of the Gear A were revealed through its official developer SDK.

The Orbis/Gear A will come with an Exynos 3472 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and the Mali-400 MP4 GPU clocked at 450 MHz, 768 MB of RAM, 4GB of on-board storage, and a 250 mAh battery.

For connectivity, it will have Bluetooth 4.1 which enables the device to tap seamlessly on its companion smartphones and/or tablets. Similar to what has been previously revealed, the wearable tech will have a variant with Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n).

As for its sensors, the Gear A will be packed with inbuilt GPS, accelerometer, gyro, barometer, and heart rate sensors.

Furthermore, a new, special version of Tizen will be specifically integrated for the device's circular screen. Speaking of which, it will boast a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. As for its display size, SDK said it could be around 1.65", but the exact details are not yet confirmed.

SamMobile previously reported that Gear A will feature a digital crown on top of the bezel ring which will help with the UI navigation. The company was also reported to be partnering with various artists and case makers for Gear A's bands.
