Samsung Gear Fit 2 Price, Specs & Release Date: Here's What to Expect

As more and more people are getting into an active lifestyle, fitness-tracking wearables have established a niche market of their own. And it seems like Samsung wouldn't want to miss out on the chance to take up a sizeable portion of the revenue pie from these fitness bands.

The tech company has just launched the Samsung Gear Fit 2 on June 2. This new device is the successor of the 2014 Samsung Gear Fit.

The latest wearable can both function as a fitness tracker and a smartwatch. It can track your distance, speed, route, calories, sleep, steps and floors. The Gear Fit 2 can also be used to make a response to calls and text messages. And with a Wi-Fi connection, you can also use its Spotify app to listen to music via a Bluetooth headphone.

The Gear Fit 2 specs are highlighted by its 1.5-inch Touch Curved Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 216 x 432. It will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and have 512 MB of RAM. The device has a storage capacity of 4 GB while the battery has a capacity of 200mAh.

It will also be IP68 water resistant for some peace of mind for the users. The fitness band will also include a GPS, Accelerometer, Gyro and Barometer. More importantly, the users will also be getting a heart rate monitor to track their intensity level.

For those who might be asking, the Gear Fit 2 will be compatible with Galaxy smartphones that are Android 4.3 and higher, and non-Galaxy devices that are Android 4.4 and higher. The minimum requirement is set at 1.5GB of RAM.

As for the new fitness band's price and release date, those who are interested to get their hands on one of these devices from Samsung can place their pre-orders starting June 3 or wait until June 10 when gear Fit 2 hit the retail stores, as per Wareable. It has a price tag of $180, which is cheaper compared to its predecessor and its two closest rivals, the Microsoft Band 2 and the Apple Watch.

Apart from the Gear Fit 2, tech people have also been expecting Samsung to unveil the newest Gear Icon X Bluetooth wireless earbuds and the Gear 360 virtual reality camera. According to Vine Report, it may sound like a far-fetched idea, but there are also rumors that the tech giant from South Korea could be introducing the next generation Samsung Galaxy Note phablet.
