San Antonio Spurs NBA News, Rumors: Patty Mills Nominated for Australian Hall of Fame Award
San Antonio Spurs point guard Patty Mills is reported to be among the seven nominees for Australian Sports Hall of Fame's "The Don" Award, according to reports.
The 26-year-old Indigenous Australian will be up against Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios to vie for the title, Project Spurs reported.
"Named in honour of Australian cricket's greatest player Don Bradman, Kyrgios and Mills will compete with three-time winter Olympian Lydia Lassila, athletics stars Sally Pearson and Michael Shelley, Formula One whiz kid Daniel Ricciardo and cricket paceman Mitchell Johnson," The Sydney Herald stated.
The past year with the Spurs has been quite a whirlwind for Mills, who had been injured in the shoulder. The shoulder injury later required him to undergo a surgery.
Signed with the team on March 2012 for the 2012-2013 seasons, Mills became the first Australian of indigenous heritage to share a championship title in the American basketball league with the San Antonio Spurs.
One of his career highlights was his 14-point surge during the third quarter of game five against Miami Heat in the 2014 NBA Finals, the series that Spurs won.
He had also led the Australian national basketball team, the Boomers, during the 2012 London Olympics of which he averaged with 21.2 points per game.
However, he missed to join the team for the FIBA World Cup campaign due to his reported injury.
The winner of "The Don" Award will be announced on Oct. 9 at the Hall of Fame's awards dinner in Melbourne, Australia.
