'Scandal' Season 4 Release Date, Plot Spoilers: Olivia and Fitz Drama is Still Far From Over

It's only a few more days until ABC's hit political thriller drama "Scandal" will once again air for its brand new fourth season. Thanks to a number of spoilers and promo teasers, the excitement for the show's return has continued to build. Here's a roundup of what we know so far.

The first teaser showed Washington's best "fixer," Olivia "Liv" Pope (Kerry Washington), was off for a "vacation" while her lover and boss U.S. President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) was hankering for her whereabouts. The only message Fitz hear when he call her home and office (Pope & Associates) was "the number you have dialed is no longer in service."

However, it seems like the vacation with Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) won't last long as Washington was able to tease the fans last month that the Olivitz drama is still far from over.

"I think that it's so clear that their love is a very very real love, but the roller coaster ride of whether or not they can be together and how and when and why, that's so much of what makes the show exciting because there are so many question marks around that," Washington explained.

Meanwhile, a synopsis released by SpoilerTV reveals other events that will take place in the next season including Bellamy Young's Mellie Grant dealing with her personal problems.

"In order for Fitz to make the biggest impact with his State of the Union address on gun control, Cyrus sets out to recruit a power couple (Mary McCormick and Josh Randall) who are influential on the issue. Meanwhile, Mellie's personal struggle gets national attention," the website reads.

"Scandal" season 4 will air on Thursday, Sept. 25 on ABC on its new 9 p.m. time slot.
