'Scandal' season 5 news, cast, spoilers: Olivia and Fitz will finally come clean

Olivia and Fitz have gone through quite a lot in the past seasons, and in the last one, many feared that they just might see the two go separate ways. However, good news awaits Olitz fans in this coming season of "Scandal," as according to Hypable, the couple will finally be coming clean with their relationship.

It was understandable why the two kept their relationship a secret, because Fitz is still married to Mellie, and sleeping with Presidents is one of the last things Olivia thinks of. However, with Fitz's divorce getting finalized this upcoming fifth season, it seems that the two will just finally give up the pretense and go public with their love.

Shonda Rhimes, creator of the show, shared to Entertainment Weekly what had pushed her into going this direction for Olivia and Fitz's relationship. She says, "I found myself really inspired by the idea of what would really happen if we let everything change for real. Now we're in season 5 and I'm thinking, why not? I think Olivia has come around. A lot of last season was about healing all of her damage and getting her to a place where she can see the two of them together. … When we last saw her, she was standing on the balcony, and Fitz says to her, 'What happens now?' and she says, 'Whatever we want.' It's a big 'whatever we want.'"

It seems that Olivia took that statement to heart, since now they are going out with a bang, wanting everyone to know that their relationship is the real deal. Kerry Washington, who plays Olivia, seems to look forward to see what this brave step will bring to her character. She goes,"I'm excited to see what happens when Olivia follows her own rules and has to practice what she preaches. From season 1, she's always said to clients, 'You have to tell the truth, that's the only thing I ask of you.' But this relationship was always an exception to the rule, which meant there was always a disconnect in what she believed and how she behaved. And so for Olivia to say, 'I'm done hiding, I'm done lying' … I'm excited to see what that allows her to discover in her life."

Fans will have to wait and see how it will turn out for Olivia and Fitz and watch how they will handle the challenges coming their way now that their relationship is out in the open and is welcome to scrutiny. The fifth season of Scandal airs on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. EST/PST on ABC.
