Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG003S Release Date, Specs News: Road Car Attempts to Break Current Nurburgring Lap Record

When the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG003S makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, it could very well be one of the fastest road cars ever created. The American automaker has announced that the SCG003S will attempt to break the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record, currently held by the Porsche 918 Spyder.

The "S" in the upcoming car's name stands for "stradale," which is Italian for "road." It pays homage to the classic Italian cars of the 1960s. As its name implies, the SCG003S is designed as a street-legal car that is inspired by the SCG003C race car.

"It's the culmination of a long-held dream to finally see our amazing race car born again as a road car, using all the know-how we have taken from competing in international races and putting it onto the road. This will be a collectable car like no other, capturing the spirit of the road racers that have defined automotive history during the heyday of grand touring," said brand creator James Glickenhaus.

Based on the SCG003C's performance on Nürburgring 24 Hours, one of the most challenging races in the world, the automaker estimates that the SCG003S will be able to complete a lap time of 6 minutes and 30 seconds — which would make it 27 seconds faster than the Porsche sports car.

However, it remains to be seen if the SCG003S will indeed accomplish this feat. Thankfully, the supercar is equipped with a pretty powerful engine — a 4.4-liter twin-turbo engine that produces 800 horsepower and 627-pound of feet. The powertrain is mated to a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox. It is able to go from standstill to 62 miles per hour (mph) in less than three seconds and attains a top speed of 217 miles per hour.

Compared with the race car variant, the SCG003S is lighter at 2,866 pounds thanks to the use of a carbon fiber chassis. The road-legal car also comes with the latest technologies which give it an advanced aerodynamic downforce of more than 2 G.

The SCG003S will be hand-built by Manifattura Automobili Torino and will be produced in limited numbers. Customers will be able to personalize almost all aspects of the car in order to attain a tailor-made driving experience.

The sports car will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show, scheduled from March 9 to 19.
