Seattle Seahawks Listening to Offers for Richard Sherman, but Trade Unlikely

Richard Sherman has been one of the franchise cornerstones for the Seattle Seahawks, but his name has come up in trade rumors a couple of weeks ago. Sherman may find the idea of getting dealt amusing, but it turns out that the Seahawks did listen to offers for the All-Pro cornerback.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider spoke with reporters at the annual league meetings in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday and he revealed that teams have called to inquire about Sherman. However, a trade is highly unlikely.

"You're either competing or you're not. And so we've always had to be open for everything, every suggestion that comes along. There have been some teams that have called, and so we've talked about it. But he's extremely important to our football team," Schneider said during the interview, via ESPN.

"I don't see anything happening at all. And I don't see anything happening with any other players, just the banter that's out there right now. But it has been talked about. He's a great player and can impact another team. I can see why people would be interested in him," he continued.

Will the Seahawks really consider trading Sherman? Sure, some people may say that they should just get rid of him because of his confrontations with defensive coordinator Kris Richard and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell last season, but he is an integral part of their defense and the team is going to have a hard time replacing him. Why should they trade one of their most important players?

Meanwhile, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport has reported that the New England Patriots were one of the teams interested in Sherman before they signed Stephon Gilmore.

The trade rumors first came out when former National Football League (NFL) executive Mike Lombardi said he heard the Seahawks were willing to move Sherman for the right offer.
