Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson Talks Faith After Super Bowl Win: 'God Is So Good'

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson repeatedly referenced his Christian faith following his team's win at Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, crediting his stellar athletic performance and victory to God in multiple post-game interviews.

Wilson, 25, threw two touchdown passes in the game's second half, finishing the score against the Denver Broncos at 43 to 8. Wilson has previously been criticized for being too short to play quarterback due to his 5'11" stature, and following his team's massive win on Sunday, the young quarterback said his height does not define him and he owes all of his athletic talent to God.

"God's given me so much talent and my height doesn't define my skill set," Wilson told "CBS This Morning" on Monday. "I believe that God has given me a right arm and for some reason even though I'm 5'11" to be able to make the throws and make great decisions on the field and all that."

"I think to be a great quarterback, you have to have a great leadership, great attention to detail, and a relentless competitive nature," Wilson added. "And that's what I try to bring to the table and I have a long way to go. I'm still learning and I'm still on a constant quest for knowledge."

The quarterback, who was also criticized for being too young to play such an important position, also referenced God directly after the game while speaking with reporters. "It's a true, true blessing," Wilson said of the win. "God is so good. We believed we would get here. At the beginning of the season I told our guys, 'Hey, why not us?' We believed that we could get here. We had the talent. We had the coaching staff."

Wilson has previously been open about his Christian faith. A few days prior to his big game at the Meadowlands in New Jersey, the quarterback sat down with four of his teammates and Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle to discuss his faith. When asked what Jesus meant to him, Wilson replied, "Jesus is love! At the end of the day, we are all looking for someone to comfort us, somebody to be there for us at all times."

"When we are at the worst times of our lives, when we are battling with something, or struggles, whatever it may be, when we are at our highest point as well, when things are going really well, we want somebody to comfort us and be there for us and to say, 'Well done.' That's Jesus!"

Additionally, Wilson reportedly attended church prior to Sunday's big game, posting a photo of him with pastor Judah Smith of The City Church on Twitter Sunday morning.

Sunday's blowout game against the Denver Broncos serves as the first Super Bowl win for the northwestern Seahawks team in its 38-year history. Football analysts have credited the team's outstanding defense as one of the main reasons they won the game, as they were able to stop Denver's equally good offense from scoring until the last play of the third quarter.
