Security Analysts Claim Apple to Abandon Fingerprint Scanner by 2018

Apple has recently been dominating the smartphone market, what with the release of two new flagships in the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, as well as the upcoming iPhone X. The tech giant's keynote event featured a new way of gaining access to the iPhone. The Face ID has been met with a lot of criticisms, as well as price, and security analysts are convinced that this might be the end of the fingerprint scanner era.

"We predict all new 2H18F iPhone models will likely abandon fingerprint recognition," said KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, as reported by MacRumors. "We believe this change will allow all new models to realize a competitive advantage via differentiation, on the back of an integrated user experience of full-screen design and TrueDepth Camera/ Facial recognition/ Face ID/ AR applications."

As a result of the revolution incited by Apple and their Face ID technology, it seems that fingerprint scanners will have no place in the iPhone lineup by 2018. Further reports indicate that the focus of the tech giant will likely switch to the True Depth technology, which enables the premium and flagship iPhone X to yield 3D models of the users' faces, which in turn, enables the Face ID.
