Selena Gomez Wows in Mature Dress at Venice Film Festival

Selena Gomez stunned fans on the red carpet in a strapless blush-colored gown at the Venice Film Festival Wednesday.

The 20-year-old former Disney star debuted a brand-new and very mature look in the Versace Atelier gown and Sergio Rossi heels. Gomez paired the gown, which billowed on one side, with a Judith Leiber clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

While many fashion critics celebrated the fashion choice, other fans joked that Gomez's gown resembled curtains.

Alternately, the actress chose a more widely accepted black cocktail dress during the premiere of "Spring Breakers" at the Venice Film Festival earlier this week. Another mature choice, Gomez donned the embroidered lace Dolce & Gabbana dress paired with Jimmy Choo sandals.

"Spring Breakers" provided Gomez with an opportunity to break the mold of her former Disney image, and she said her role in the film might be "a little shocking" for some fans.

Gomez, who is best known as Alex Russo in Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place," maintained that the role was right for her, however.

"I'm nervous," said the star speaking to E! News. "It's a little edgy, but it's fun. I fought for the role."

Many young stars such as Miley Cyrus experienced difficulty making the transition into more adult roles after their careers with Disney ended. In a recent report by Perez Hilton, Gomez is "not in Waverly Place anymore," citing the television series on Disney.

Gomez added that her character in "Spring Breakers" is "the little more tamed down character but also gets a little crazy here and there."

"She goes down on spring break with her girlfriends and they end up getting into a whole mess of things," Gomez explained to E! News. "They're partying and drinking. We end up in jail."

The film stars Vanessa Hudgens, another former Disney star, and James Franco. It is due to hit theaters next year.
