Selena Gomez's Mother Is Pregnant

Selena's mom, Mandy Teefy, expecting a new baby

Selena Gomez has been dealing with a lot of baby news lately. Shortly after the Justin Bieber "baby mama" rumors that accused her boyfriend of fathering a child began to dissipate, the 19-year-old star has announced that her mother and stepfather are expecting a baby.

"Momma and Brian are finally letting me share the news," she tweeted yesterday. "My mommy's carrying my baby brother or sister :)."

Gomez tweeted a black and white photo of her mother, Mandy Teefey and stepfather, Brian Teefey, in an "expecting" pose, with Brian's hand gently placed on Mandy's belly.

The happy baby news is a stark contrast to the messy, mudslinging legal battle concerning Bieber's alleged involvement with Mariah Yeater, who accused the "Baby" singer of fathering her child. Despite the intense media attention on the case, Gomez has remained by Bieber's side at public events, leading some media outlets to describe her as "devoted" and even "stoic."

The "stoic" part might have been inherited form her mother, according to media stories about Gomez's upbringing. Although not many 19-year-olds' mothers give birth, Gomez's mother is only 35 years old now and was 16 when she gave birth to her future star daughter and was a divorced, single mom by the time she was 21.

"Having me at sixteen had to have been a big responsibility. My mom gave up everything for me and had, like, three jobs. She supported me, sacrificed her life for me," Gomez said about her mother in an interview with E! Entertainment in June, 2011.

Only 5 years old when her parents divorced, Gomez said she initially blamed her mother for the split.

"I blamed my mom a lot [for the divorce] because I wanted a family so bad," Gomez said. "I wanted to have my mom and dad together. I remember just being angry with my mom. I still feel really bad about that."

Mandy affirmed Gomez's initial reaction, but correctly predicted that she would no longer feel the same way.

"[Selena] would vent and yell at me and all I could do is just say, 'I'm sorry--but you'll understand someday,' " she said.
