Read: Romans 14:10-20
Let us therefore no longer pass judgment on one another, but resolve instead never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of another. (v. 13)
Each year, American companies spend millions of dollars to train their employees to be more sensitive. They strive to create an environment free from harassment and offensive behavior. While the main objective is to save themselves from expensive lawsuits, these companies are also trying to help their employees be as comfortable as possible no matter what their situation might be. Once a company acquires a reputation for having a poor workplace environment, they find it very difficult to recruit the best employees.
Everyone has different areas of life in which they struggle. At times we demonstrate a need for sensitivity training of a different sort, so that we don't create stumbling blocks or hindrances to spiritual growth in others. Most often we create such difficulties without a thought; we just say what's on our mind or do what we want to do. Yet this thoughtlessness can tempt others to sin against their conscience, or even challenge their faith in Christ.
It is our duty as believers to avoid causing the "ruin of those for whom Christ died." Be considerate of others' weaknesses, without passing judgment.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be sensitive to the weaknesses of others. Amen.
