Serial Killer Broke Own Rule, Israel Keyes Losing Control Led to Capture (VIDEO, PHOTO)

Serial killer, Israel Keyes, was able to be captured because he "broke his own rule," according to recent media reports following the suspect's apparent suicide.

Investigators had described Israel Keyes as being very controlled about his murders, however, he was finally caught after losing control of himself.

The 34 year old suspect reportedly was planning to leave the Anchorage coffee stand that he visited on Feb. 1 if the barista working there did not have her own car.

However, after seeing teenager, Samantha Koenig, he allegedly lost control, grabbing her and killing her in his own car.

He stole her credit cards and was finally caught as he used her cards in numerous shops across the U.S.

ABC has reported, "In prior cases, he had enough self-control to walk away from it, to not commit the kidnapping, to not commit the abduction and with Samantha he didn't. He broke his own rule. He had drawn his line in the sand and he couldn't help himself, he said. He took her anyway."

Keyes allegedly spent 10 years going on a serial killing spree without being caught as he was very specific about how he conducted his murders and did not let himself slip up by leaving behind any trail or clues.

However, he is now said to have broken his "own rules" and that is what ultimately led to his arrest.

Recently it was reported that Keyes committed suicide in his prison cell on Dec. 1, meaning he will never face trial for the murders, although police have extracted 40 hours of video footage of him confessing to three murders.

He was scheduled to be tried in March, 2013.

It is believed that his actual number of murders was more than three, however, and officials believe he has killed between eight and 12 women over the past decade.

Police have also reported that Keyes confessed to raping, but not killing, a woman sometime between 1996 and 1998.

Police believe the woman was between 14 and 18 years old, so they believe that the victim is still alive. Officials are now attempting to locate the woman.
