'Sex and the City 3' Latest News: 'AHS' Creator Ryan Murphy Suggests Recasting Samantha

Fans and actors alike were disappointed when news broke that "Sex and the City 3" would not be happening. Now, "American Horror Story" creator Ryan Murphy has offered his two cents on the subject.

It has been reported that "Sex and the City 3" has been canceled due to Kim Cattrall who plays Samantha Jones. To that end, Murphy told TV critic Emily Nussbaum at The New Yorker Festival recently that the solution is clear.

"Recast Samantha!" he said. "Look, I would be very devastated if I created something cultural like that and 95 percent of the team said, 'Let's do it,' but there was a hold on it. I don't blame Kim Cattrall though."

Rumor has it that Cattrall had made unreasonable demands that led to the film getting axed. The 61-year-old actress has denied these claims on Twitter. She also revealed that she is moving on from her character whom she has played for 20 years.

Sources have shared with PEOPLE that Cattrall had indeed been asking for "outrageous" things. An informant said the actress demanded that the studio buy her films, even those in development, as well as provide her with a TV deal. These have supposedly caused Warner Bros. to cancel "Sex and the City 3."

However, some others have revealed contradictory information. A source mentioned that Cattrall only hesitated because she wanted better treatment for her character, Samantha. Apparently, the actress was tired of the humiliating plot lines in the previous movies and the series.

"She was willing to have a conversation, but she needed to hear something she hasn't heard before — namely, that they would treat her character with some dignity and respect — and they wouldn't even engage in that sort of discussion," the informant told PEOPLE.
