Shakhtar is looking poised to move on after a close 1-0 win in its away leg match against Rapid Wien.

Despite playing away from home, Marlos scored the match's only goal in the 44th minute to help lift Shakhtar to victory.

The match was evenly played throughout as both teams enjoyed a lot of possession, with Rapid Wien leading a bit with 52% of the ball.

That resulted in nine total shots for the hosts but none of them would eventually beat the Shakhtar defence. On the other hand, the guests managed six shots, two on target and resulting in one goal.

It was a very physical affair as a total of 22 fouls were called – with eight players being cautioned in the match.

Christopher Dibon, Stephen Auer, Florian Kainz and Robert Beric were all carded for Rapid Wien, while Darijo Srna, Taras Stepanenko, Fred and Oleksandr Gladkiy were also shown yellow in the match for Shakhtar.

This shows both teams desire to move on in the competition so do not be quick to count out Rapid Wien though they are playing the second leg away from home and down 1-0.

The loss to Shakhtar is its only defeat in the last 25 matches across all competitions – an impressive feat regardless of matches it plays.

On the other hand, Shakhtar has only one defeat in its last 11 matches in all competitions and will look to get a result to move on in the UEFA Champions League.
