'Shameless' season 6 spoilers: Season to deal with pregnancy and abortion

Last season, the hit series "Shameless" ended on a sad and crazy note as Ian (Cameron Monaghan) and Mickey (Noel Fisher) broke up, while Mikey got shot by Sammi (Emily Bergl). Debbie (Emma Kenney) discovered that she might be pregnant and Bianca (Bojana Novakovic), Frank's (William H. Macy) girlfriend, killed herself by taking a bunch of pills and drowning.

In the upcoming season, fans will get to meet Sammi's mother Queen, who is a very joyous and earthy woman who happens to be a cannabis farmer. It is very likely that Frank, in typical Frank-fashion, will use his ex in order to acquire her stash. Meanwhile, actor Dermont Mulroney who plays Sean, Fiona's (Emmy Rossum) boss and current love interest, will be back next season. Hopefully, Fiona matures further and will finally be able to have a stable relationship.

In the new season, the relationship of Ian and Mickey will still be on the rocks as actor Noel Fisher will be pursuing his film career first and may not be available for next season. However, this might be really interesting because the absence of Mickey will give Ian a better chance of finding himself more.

As for whether Debbie is in fact pregnant or not, John Wells had this to say, "Well, I can only confirm that that's what we were doing at the time, but we haven't sat down to figure out where it would go yet. We weren't trying to just be titillating with it or provocative; we wanted to actually say, "What do you do?" when this theoretical thing just got very real."

Actor William H. Macy spoke about the forthcoming season. He said that the season is all about pregnancy and he confirmed that Debbie is indeed pregnant on the show. The show will also deal with abortion and how everyone deals with that.

Actress Ever Caradinne will guest star next season in a four-episode arc. She will play Erica, a mother in her late 30s that has terminal cancer. Her character is described as worn-out, kind, and residential.

The Gallaghers are growing up and are all headed in different directions, a trend that is bound to continue.

The new season of Shameless will return on Jan. 17, 2016.
