Sharon Stone has split with boyfriend Martin Mica after only eight months of dating, reports state. The actress created quite a stir when she went public with her relationship, given the considerable age difference between the two, but a friend insists the age gap was not a factor in the breakup.

"It wasn't so much the age difference," a source told Life & Style magazine. "They didn't share the same interests. Her passions are philanthropy, politics, activism – he wasn't into any of that. Sharon is busy. She has three sons and that keeps her hands full and still travels a lot for work."

Stone, 54, and Mica, 27, went public with their relationship while on holiday in Sao Paolo. She has been married, divorced, and had several relationships throughout her life. In 1984, she married Michael Greenburn, but they separated and divorced; just three years after her divorce was finalized, Stone became involved in a new relationship with Bill MacDonald.

Then, after that relationship ended, Stone and Bob Wagner became engaged, but it never resulted in marriage. She married Phil Bronstein, and the couple adopted son Roan Joseph Bronstein. They divorced in 2003, and Stone went on to adopt two more boys, Laird Vonne and Quinn Kelly.

In addition to acting, Stone has a reputation for activism and helping raise awareness of issues close to hear heart, including poverty and HIV/AIDS.

"She's probably one of the greatest fund-raisers that ever was," Michael Douglas told AARP. "This lady can raise money. She's very dedicated, speaks very well on her feet, and hey, God knows she can be seductive. I'm sure a few gazillionaires have coughed up more than they expected to a charity for the chance to cozy up to her."

"She's always got her heart open," Dr. Charles J. Sophy added. "She's been all over the world and seen close up what it means to be homeless, or dying of AIDS, or to need water. And she's just relentless. She'll call me up and say, 'I know this kid – can you try to get him into a drug-treatment center, and I'll pay for it?' She's an amazing person."

Stone and Mica have not commented about their relationship yet.
