'Shazam' Updates: Casting Call for the Movie Suggests Story to Include Billy Batson's Friends

While the highly anticipated DC superhero movie "Shazam" has yet to announce the actor to play the titular role, the latest reports claim that its story will also include Billy Batson's friends.

Sources claim that a casting call for "Shazam" suggests that that the production for the upcoming movie will include Billy Batson's friends, including Daniel, Carlos, Suzy, and Frank. Based on the descriptions of the said characters, Daniel is a smart 11-year-old Korean kid who loves video games and non-fiction books while the shy and sweet Carlos is Hispanic, overweight, asthmatic 15-year-old boy.

Suzy, on the other hand, is a sweet and bubbly Afro-American girl who sports glasses and pigtails and is between 8 and 10 years old while Frank is a sarcastic and funny Caucasian boy between the age of 11 and 13.

As of this writing, it remains unclear as to how the story of "Shazam" will pan out. However, it is suspected that it will be faithful to the comic book origins of the character, which means that it will feature Billy Batson as a kid. As to who will play Billy Batson and his alter-ego Shazam, an announcement is expected to made soon as it is also speculated that the movie will enter production by February next year.

While an announcement is yet to be made, it is suspected that child actor Kobi Furmer may be in the running to play the role of Billy Batson. Speculations on this possibly being the case stemmed from the discovery of Furmer's audition video for the role. As there are no reports on who other child actors auditioned for the role, it is now suspected that Furmer may be the production's sole pick to play the role of Billy Batson.

Sources also claim that "Orphan Black" actor Brendan Heard also auditioned for the role of Freddy Freeman, Billy Batson's friend who borrowed his powers to become Shazam Jr.

"Shazam" will be produced by New Line Cinema in conjunction with Warner Bros and DC Entertainment. The movie will be directed by "Annabelle: Creation" director David Sandberg and is speculated to hit the theaters in 2019.
