'Sherlock Christmas Special' coming this Yuletide!

Sherlock fans are excited at the news that a 'Sherlock Christmas Special' will be aired during the Yuletide Season this year. It is a standalone special and is set in the Victorian Era. And yes, Andrew Scott who plays Moriarty is on the cast list. Christmas just got better.

Earlier, Sherlock fans have been waiting impatiently for Season 4. But Sherlock Season 4 has not even begun shooting yet and rumours are that it will come out as late as 2017. But now fans can heave a sigh of relief as a "Sherlock Christmas Special" will be aired during the Yuletide Season this year.

It is a wonder how series creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have managed to get the busy cast together for a long enough period to do a "Sherlock Christmas Special." As Season 4 is a long time coming, they have decided to appease the staunch fans around the world with a standalone special.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Steven Moffat says, "The special is its own thing. We wouldn't have done the story we're doing, and the way we're doing it, if we didn't have this special. It's not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it's Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It's kind of in its own little bubble."

What is unique about this Christmas Special is that it is set in the Victorian era, 1895 to be precise, and Sherlock can hardly be rude in those times. So viewers will get to see a Sherlock who is less brash and more polite. This is going to be a totally new experience for Sherlock fans as they all love those horribly rude and snobbish comments by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Viewers do not know yet what this Christmas adventure is about, but the only Christmas story written by Doyle that featured Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson was 'The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle.' According to MoviePilot.com, it was a funny story that involved a missing jewel that was later discovered to be in the throat of a goose dropped by a man on the street. This man did not know this fantastic fact and Holmes tries to find an explanation why the goose had a jewel in its throat and catch the real culprits. If this is the story Moffat and Gatiss have adapted, it should be hilarious.

No official announcement has been made of the release date.
