'Sleepy Hollow' Season 3 Spoilers, Plot News: Fox Wants New Season to Get Back to Its Roots

For fans of Fox's hit supernatural drama TV series "Sleepy Hollow," they may find Season 3's theme and plotlines a bit more different than the previous installment.

In an interview with TV Line during the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, this week, FOX CEO Dana Walden revealed what the network wanted to see in Season 3.

"What we asked for [in Season 3] was a bit of a return to the storytelling model of the first season — a bit more of the fun instead of such a deep mythology that got a little bit dense" the FOX executive said.

Walden went on to confirm that the upcoming season will refocus on the show's core characters.

"We're still proud of the episodes of last season," Walden explained. "But our observation was that a lot of the show had moved into the fantastical world, where it used to be a show that was weighted very evenly between Abbie in the real world and Ichabod in the fantastical. We're trying to shift it back to a more even-handed storytelling engine."

The earlier report from TV Guide meanwhile revealed that there will be no Headless Horseman this year.

"There won't be any Headless this year," new executive producer, Clifton Campbell, told the media outlet. "But we have a new framework and a new set of rules for the mythology. And it all starts with the introduction of our new big bad and will take us into a very interesting device which will allow us to see a somewhat more compelling, but more personal threat to both Abbie (Nicole Beharie) and Crane (Tom Mison)."

"Sleepy Hollow" Season 3 is slated to premiere this Oct. 1 on Fox.
