Snapchat Context Cards Update: New Feature Offers Interactive Information With One Swipe

Snapchat has introduced a new feature it calls Context Cards.

These Context Cards offer information about public photos and videos that have been geotagged. The details included in these Context Cards consist of reviews, transportation options, and more. All the user has to do is swipe up when they see the word "more" appear.

Snapchat users who come across a snap in a restaurant no longer have to check Google to find out where it is located. Context Cards gets ride of the middleman and directly gives the user all the information they need. For example, restaurants will display necessary details like addresses, phone numbers, operating hours, etc.

Crowdsourced reviews will also appear, allowing the user to decide whether or not the place is worth a try. Users can even make reservations through different partners like OpenTable, Resy, or Bookatable.

"We know the simple act of swiping up on a snap to reserve a table will provide an experience that our diners and restaurants will love," OpenTable's senior vice president of strategy and business development Catherine Porter said.

Other partners include Foursquare, TripAdvisor, Lyft, Uber, and even Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle company, Goop. The list will grow as time passes by and, soon, Snapchat will be as convenient as it is fun.

"Travel is one of our most popular verticals, and a natural extension of Gwyneth's impetus for starting Goop: to create a place where readers can find recommendations from a trusted friend, not from an anonymous, crowdsourced engine," Goop chief content officer Elise Loehnen explained.

Right now, Snapchat users residing in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand are the only ones who can take advantage of Context Cards. The social media company is working on expanding the feature to other regions, though no specific date has been announced.

The feature is available on both iOS and Android.
