Solange Knowles Yelled at Rachel Roy Before Jay Z Assault? 'Beyonce Doesn't Approve of Violence'

Solange Knowles reportedly had a dispute with designer Rachel Roy shortly before violently attacking her brother-in-law Jay Z.

The singer, who is the younger sister of Beyonce, was captured on video assaulting the hip hop mogul during a Met Gala after party last week and the shocking footage surfaced online on Monday. A new report claims that there was tension between Solange and Roy, who is the ex-wife of famed producer Damon Dash, minutes before her attack on Jay Z.

"[Beyonce] got in the middle of it," a source told Us magazine of Solange's alleged screaming match with Roy.

Roy was reportedly mingling amongst friends at a Met Gala after party held at the Boom Boom Room in the Standard Hotel when Solange allegedly began yelling at the entire group.

The pair were once believed to be friends as photos reveal that Solange accompanied Roy to the 2012 Met Gala.

It is unclear what exactly prompted their verbal dispute, however, Beyonce and Solange reportedly left the party soon after.

Video surveillance shows Beyonce, 32, then proceeding to walk into an elevator and when Solange, 27, and Jay Z, 44, enter, violence ensues.

Solange, 27, and the hip hop mogul, 44, exchange a few words before she lunges at him. Beyonce's longtime bodyguard Julius appears to hit the emergency stop button before intervening and separating the pair.

"Solange flipped out over something Jay had said, that she took the wrong way," a source told Us magazine.

"She took it too hard or too far. Not sure what it was, but she greatly overreacted," the source added.

Beyonce maintains her composure for the most part and at one point stands between her husband and her sister in an attempt to keep them apart. Solange proceeds to kick Jay Z as he tries to defend himself and Julius struggles to keep her back.

"Beyonce tried to stay out of it," another source explained. "She does not approve of violence. They are trying to put the situation past them now."

On May 7, one day after the incident, Beyonce shared a prayer on Instagram entitled "My Prayer to God." In it she asks for guidance with her "relationships."

"Lord, I life up everyone of my relationships to You and ask You to bless them. I pray that each one would be glorifying to you," Beyonce wrote to her 12 million followers on May 7.

"Help me to choose my friends wisely so I won't be led astray. Give me discernment and strength to separate myself from anyone who is not a good influence. I release all my relationships to You and pray that Your will be done in each of them," she added.
