Solider Gets Dog Back Ex Sold on Craigslist: Friends Raised $1,400 to Buy Baxter Back

A soldier got the dog back his ex sold on Craigslist after an effort by his family, friends and supporters. Robby Gabbert expected his ex-girlfriend to keep his Shiba Inu, Baxter, while he was on tour in Afghanistan but she sold the dog to another family instead.

Gabbert, a 23-year-old soldier based in Fort Carson, Colo., and owns a 3-year-old Shiba Inu. However, upon his deployment in March, he found out that Baxter was never returned to his family and sold to another military family.

"I am currently deployed and my ex sold my dog," Gabbert posted on Craigslist. "I just found out and I am trying to find the people (person) who bought him. I will pay anything to get him back. His name is Baxter and he is an Shiba Inu. I do not have my phone with me. You can email me. The phone number is my mom's she is helping me locate him. If you have any information PLEASE give us a call or an email."

After friends, family and supporters looked for the dog, they finally found it with another family. However, the parents said their children had become attached to the dog after spending a month in the home.

"They keep saying they have children that are attached," Gabbert's mother Karen Fraley told KOAA news. "Well my child is attached to the dog. Just because he is older doesn't mean he is not my child."

The note went viral on social media, and many gathered together to raise money to buy the dog back. After raising $1,400, the family agreed to return the dog, and arrangements are being made.

The Colorado Shiba Inu Rescue organization, a nonprofit group, has offered to find another dog for the family to adopt in Baxter's place.

Gabbert is currently still deployed in Afghanistan.
