Sony's 'Jump Street' Franchise to Feature an All-Female Cast Spinoff, Crossover With 'Men in Black'?

Recent reports said that Sony's entertainment branch is setting their eyes to expand their popular "Jump Street" franchise by first having an all-female led spinoff and then having its main cast, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, crossover with the "Men in Black."

A report from Collider said that the plan is being spearheaded by Sony's new studio executive Tom Rothman. According to the publication, "Broad City" writers Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs are actually working on a script for the female-centric spinoff of the said action comedy film.

The media outlet cited a report from the Wrap that both Aniello and Downs will try to "maintain the tone of 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street" for the upcoming project.

As for Hill and Tatum, it is said that the two actors will "continue their side of the franchise" by crossing over with yet another lucrative cinematic franchise property, "Men in Black," which was previously led by actors Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as Agent J and Agent K, respectively.

"The idea is to send up the current trend of shared universes. This blending of two of Sony's biggest franchises will find Hill and Tatum investigating aliens, which in and of itself sounds like a brilliant idea," the site wrote.

However, it remains a mystery as to who will bring the shady galaxy defenders to life. Will it still be Smith and Jones?

A separate report from Screen Rant said that it "may be difficult to bring Smith back in particular," given his current collaboration with the DC cinematic universe in which he plays as a member of the "Suicide Squad."

The Wrap meanwhile speculated that Dakota Johnson, who appeared in 21 Jump Street, can take on the head role on the mentioned female spinoff.
