'South Park' News at Comic Con 2016: 'South Park the Fractured But Whole' Developers Release New Behind-the-Scenes Video

"South Park: The Fractured But Whole" is the much anticipated sequel to the previous South Park game, The Stick of Truth.

It will be released in December, but for the moment, game developers and promoters are slowly providing bits and pieces of the game to the public, generating much buzz and excitement in the gaming community.

The premise of the game begins with children pretending that they are superheroes, and sprinkling it with childish gags, tongue-in-cheek remarks about Marvel, and gameplay that involves engaging strategy.

Behind the Scenes

Ubisoft and South Park Studios released a behind-the-scenes video about the game. It featured South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker talking about the origins of the game and so much more.

In this video, Parker and Stone revealed that they learned a lot from the previous game, The Stick of Truth. That's why they decided to do a sequel and apply the things they have learned.

The sequel is a continuation of the previous game. It starts off with the main character losing all his prominence from the first instalment. Trey Parker said, "It just seems like a perfect RPG thing of like here's a big powerful person, and now you're nothing, and you gotta work your way back."

Getting Feedback

Matt and Trey mentioned getting feedback by watching Pewdiepie, a YouTuber that makes videos about him playing games and making comments along the way.

The South Park creators got valuable feedback from Pewdiepie's video on South Park: The Stick of Truth. It showed what a player's thoughts were while playing the game. They took detailed input from someone who critics video games on a regular basis so Parker said "it was great to have that as a resource."

New Gameplay Elements

Johnny Oh, game designer, said, "You're actually having to think a little bit more about your next move and maybe even two or three moves ahead." For one, players have to think about where best to put their character from a set of squares around the enemy.

Warren Price, senior level designer for Ubisoft, adds, "It is an outrageous tactical RPG in a super-hero suit." The new features include being able to pick which characters you want on your side, the ability to combine powers, and cleverly putting your characters in positions where they can be most effective offensively.

Origin of the Game Name

The previous game showcased characters that have powerful farts, so in this sequel, the developers decided to make the farts more powerful. In fact, the flatulence in "The Fractured But Whole" is so strong that it can create a whole in the space-time continuum, allowing players to travel back in time, among other powers.

That's exactly why the original title of this game was called "The Butt Hole of Time." They had to change the name, though, since retailers didn't want that name linked to their stores. That's why the developers decided to change their name and use clever wordplay.
