Southern Baptist President Visits Golden Gate Seminary

MILL VALLEY, Calif.— The president of the Southern Baptist Convention urges seminary student to be “the salt of the earth” and to “penetrate the decadence and depravity of our time,” March 13. The sermon was part of Jack Graham’s two day visit to the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary campus.

"Max out for God in your witness for Christ," Graham urged the seminarians. "God has called us to missions and evangelism.

"Christ said that you are the salt [of the world]. What we need is the salty effect of Christ living in us. Compromise will make us worthless," said Graham, pastor of the Dallas-area Prestonwood Baptist Church.

"Southern Baptists are critiqued for presenting an exclusivistic claim that salvation is only through Christ," Graham commented. "It's true that the gospel is exclusive. But it includes all people who will receive the grace and forgiveness offered through Christ."

Graham was accompanied by the President of the SBC Annuity Board, O.S. Hawkins. Both Graham and Hawkins spoke in various classrooms and met with faculty and administration.

"We were delighted to host these two effective leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention," Golden Gate President William O. Crews said. "Their vision for shaping leaders for the churches of tomorrow certainly reflects our passion and vision as well."

The visit took place that the Mill Valley campus of the Golden Gate Seminary – the seminary is located throughout five campuses in the western United States. It is one of the six seminaries administrated by the Southern Baptist Convention.
