The statue of Virgin Mary lies broken at the Shrine of the Mother of Most Pure, a Roman Catholic church, in Mattegoda, east of the capital Colombo, Sri Lanka, January 27, 2004, after the church was vandalized on Monday. The Catholic church is the third church within two-weeks to be vandalized amid mounting inter-religious tension in the Buddhist majority island.
