In the first game, the Cardinals showed why they were the top team in their division as they thrashed the Cubs 4-0.

However, in the second game, the Cubs began to fight back, showing that they deserve the place in the playoffs by battling the Cardinals to win 6-3 despite playing away from their home field.

In particular, their second inning against the Cardinals in the game showed they can pile up points in a hurry as they scored five times to eventually put the game beyond St. Louis' reach.

They continued their momentum in the third game as they battled in a high-scoring affair which ended with an 8-6 score.

It was in the second inning when the Cubs started to score again, with Kyle Schwarber hitting a 367-foot home run to deep left center to give the Cubs the lead.

In the fourth inning, St. Louis showed their mettle by scoring twice behind Stephen Piscotty and Matt Holliday.

Jhonny Peralta hit a double which allowed Piscotty to run to home plate while Holliday went to third.

Then, Tommy Pham grounded out but Holliday was able to sprint to give St. Louis the 2-1 lead.

In the fourth and fifth inning, the Cubs took control back after Starlin Castro hit a 406-foot home run to tie the score.

Then two more home runs from Chicago care of Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo extended the lead to 5-2 as Jorge Soler was also able to run to home plate due to Bryant's off-the-park hit.

St. Louis battled back and even cut the lead to one as Jason Heyward hit a homer to allow Holliday to score as well, but in the same inning it was Soler's turn to hit a home run for the Cubs to allow Chris Coghlan to score and restore the three-run lead.

Dexter Fowler joined the act as his home run extended the Cubs' lead to 8-4 before Piscotty hit his own home run with Randal Grichuk on base to tally the final score 8-6.
