St. Louis Rams News: WR Stedman Bailey in Critical Condition after Getting Shot

Wide receiver Stedman Bailey of the St. Louis Rams is currently in critical condition after getting shot while sitting in a car in Miami.

Police earlier reported that the football player was actually in the vehicle, along with four individuals near an unspecified residence in Miami Gardens. The same statement said that another vehicle pulled up and opened fire, in the process hitting Bailey and another man perceived to be driving the car.

The driver, who later was revealed to be Antwan Reeves, managed to drive the car to the nearest hospital, where they were treated for wounds in different parts of the body. It was then revealed that Bailey actually got hit in the head, forcing doctors to label him in critical condition. A report from NFL.com said that Bailey, though incurring two wounds in the head, did not have life-threatening injuries, which means that he is in stable condition.

Team officials immediately released a statement to the press:

"We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."

There are several contrasting reports about the surgery that followed soon after Bailey was admitted to the hospital. According to coach Jeff Fisher, the surgery lasted from four to six hours, but Adam Schefter reporting for ESPN revealed that a source told him the surgery lasted nine hours.

Police also revealed that the driver, Antwan Reeves, is actually Bailey's cousin and that there were two other minors inside the car when the incident happened. He was hit as he attempted to protect the children from the shots fired from the other vehicle.

Several NFL players and coaches took to social media to support Bailey and condemn the shooting.
