'Star Trek 3' Cast Rumors, News Update: Search for Director Narrowed Down to 5 Names
Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are still pushing forward despite the fact that their upcoming film "Star Trek 3" doesn't have a director since Robero Orci stepped down from the director's chair. The film studios are now eyeing for one of these "five top directors" to replace Orci's role in the upcoming franchise sequel "Star Trek" sequel, according to reports.
The studios have five possible names in mind, according to Deadline: Duncan Jones, Morten Tyldum, Justin Lin, Daniel Espinosa or Rupert Wyatt. Wyatt is reportedly at the top of the list.
BadA--Digest.com speculated that Wyatt could really be the right person for the job.
"With The Gambler opening for Paramount and his experience on Rise of the Planet of the Apes making him geek friendly as well as the right guy to do a smart scifi movie," the site explained.
As for the other contenders, they may not actually be serious picks to direct
"I think a lot of these names -- like Justin Lin -- are wishlist names, not actual people in contention for the job," BadA--Digest continued.
However, Deadline pointed out the many variables to which Paramount has to consider when looking for the right person for "Star Trek 3."
"When you aim for the hot emerging directors in town, there are a lots of variables including schedule conflicts and this list might not be an all-inclusive list," the site noted.
"For instance, Espinosa is expected to next direct Boston Strong, the film about the bombing of the Boston Marathon and the manhunt for the terrorist siblings, that is supposed to shoot in time to include footage from the upcoming Boston Marathon; and Jones is working on Warcraft, a huge Legendary Pictures effort based on the video game," they continued.
