'Star Wars 9' Plot News: Film to 'Find a Way' to Wrap Up Leia's Story, Mark Hamill Says

Carrie Fisher's death was a big heartbreak for the millions of "Star Wars" fans across the globe. She will still be seen in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" as Leia Organa this December as she had finished filming her scenes before her passing, but new reports say that she will still be honored in the ninth "Star Wars" film, the final installment of the trilogy.

During a fan event at New York Comic-Con over the weekend, Mark Hamill, who plays the iconic Luke Skywalker in the saga, revealed that the closing chapter will "find a way" to properly wrap up Leia's story.

"You're going to really love her in The Last Jedi," the actor reportedly said, according to USA Today. "I know they're going to try and find a way to close her story in Episode 9 that gives her the respect she deserves, because Han Solo was more prominent in The Force Awakens, Luke's a little more prominent in The Last Jedi, and certainly Leia was meant to be more prominent in Episode 9. Worldwide, everyone feels that gap she left, but we all have to hang in there," he added.

It can be recalled that Fisher passed away in December last year due to cardiac arrest. She suffered an attack on a commercial flight from London to Los Angeles, around 15 minutes before the airplane landed.

J.J. Abrams has been tapped to write and direct "Star Wars 9." Not only will he need to wrap up the sequel trilogy, which he also started with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the seventh film in the trilogy, but he would also need to effectively close off the story of an iconic character in the franchise.

Meanwhile, the trailer for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" has just been released. It features a new look at Rey's (Daisy Ridley) training with Luke, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) piloting his fighter and looking like he is about to attack his mother Leia's Resistance ship, Rey getting tortured by the mysterious Snoke and then asking Kylo, "show me my place in all this."

Does this mean Rey is going to join the Dark Side? Fans will soon find out when the highly anticipated film opens in cinemas on Dec. 15.
