Star Wars Battlefront Latest News, Update: EA Reveals Process of Creating Planet Sullust

Amidst the excitement of the recent Star Wars Day, the people from EA's Digital Illusions CE (DICE) took the opportunity to announce some updates on what to expect on their upcoming action video game which includes 12 new multiplayer maps.

Going over to their official website DICE revealed some interesting details on the gruelling process the team has went through on creating those maps, which particularly bid them to travel to Iceland.

"When the DICE team first set foot on the Icelandic surface, parts were bubbling, giving off short yet intense bursts of heat. The solid ground gently rumbled, reverberations felt from head to toe. They stood still, looking far and wide only to see eerie streams of smoke rolling across the horizon and over awkward arrangements of gigantic black rocks," the statement reads.

"It was in this moment," EA said, "that they knew this was what players need to feel when trudging through the cold, dark, and unstable terrain of a previously unexplored planet and bringing this to Star Wars Battlefront would be one of their biggest challenges yet."

Iceland, a place that "looked like another planet," is undeniably a perfect inspiration for Sullust.

"It's very barren in a beautiful way. It hints at all the features in our concept and all the content we needed to gather … all the materials, rock shapes and even the lava," they said.

Pictures shared by the website featured photographers going on all fours to capture stills and references that could help them create the "iconic planet we are very proud of."

"It's all about grounding in reality. Everything needs to look like something you could actually imagine existing," Lead Environment Artist Andrew Hamilton said.

"Star Wars Battlefront" is slated to be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on PC this Nov. 17, 2015.
