'Star Wars: Battlefront' News Trailer and Release Date (VIDEO)

EA recently released the teaser for its action video game "Stars Wars: Battlefront" a few days after the release date leaked from the game's official website.

Electronic Arts and EA Digital Illusions CE released a cinema-quality trailer for the latest entry in its "Star Wars: Battlefront" series after news inadvertently leaked over its Nov. 17 release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The sci-fi multiplayer action game is set to launch just before "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" premieres in theaters, and EA played the realistic teaser trailer for the game at the Star Wars Celebration Friday at the Anaheim Convention Center in California.

Six years after waiting for a third game, fans and players of the series were treated to Storm Troopers in hot pursuit of rebel speeders in the forest of Endor, while dogfights between X-wing and TIE fighters explode in the skies, and an AT-AT takes a hit and falls.

A black glove with a red lightsaber announces the appearance of Darth Vader, and the scene shifts to another battle taking place in the snow-covered hills of Hoth, which segues to a dogfight over stony cliffs, and TIE fighters zooming out of a ship's hangar.

EA did not specify whether the teaser contained actual game footage or pre-rendered scenes from the game's engine itself, but impressed the convention's audience with the realistic clip and sound effects.

"Star Wars: Battlefront is set up to support up to 40 players divided between the forces of the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance battling it out using Star Wars weapons and vehicles like blasters, jetpacks, AT-STs, AT-AT war machines, speeder bikes, snow speeders, X-wings, TIE fighters, and even the Millennium Falcon, among many others.

Players of the multi-shooter game will be able to traverse a number of locations, including Endor, Hoth, Tattoine, and the previously unexplored planet of Sullust in missions where they can opt to play alone, or with a friend via split-screen.

Pre-orders for "Battle of Jakku," a "Force Awakens"-themed DLC for the game starts Dec. 1 this year, for players who prefer to receive the downloadable content a week before its official Dec. 8 launch.
