Star Wars New Movie Latest News: Director Josh Trank Leaves After Alleged Problems

Josh Trank recently announced that he is no longer directing the upcoming 2nd spinoff movie of "Star Wars," as originally planned. In his announcement, the director did not give any specific reason for his departure. He merely expressed his thanks for the opportunity given to him.

According to a report in Cinema Blend however, there is more behind this recent piece of news. The report says that it was Walt Disney Pictures who made the decision to let go of Trank because of various reasons.

Trank recently finished work on "The Fantastic Four" reboot, which is showing in theaters in a few months. The report cites insider information about the way he worked on the said film that reportedly "turned off" Lucasfilm and Disney, after they heard about it.

Inside sources who shared information to The Hollywood Reporter cited several problems with Trank's behavior while shooting the film. One of those problems cited included a reported $100,000 bill for damages to a rented house that the director and several of his small dogs occupied during filming.

Another one had to do a more crucial role of a director to communicate closely with the film's producers.

Due to "his indecisive and lack of communication," producers Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker had to come in and intervene, to "pull the film together." Apparently, the film needed to do re-shoots with only three months left to till the opening. This posed the biggest problem because of the hectic schedules of the film's stars.

Kinberg, who is also on board as producer of the second "Star Wars" spinoff film, had to communicate these to Lucasfilm, which became the basis for their decision to let Trank go.

Speculation among fans started when Trank was a no-show during a panel about the "Star Wars" anthology films at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California recently. Inside sources said that the studio requested him not to attend as they were making their decision about his involvement.

This leaves Lucasfilm and Disney without a director for the second anthology film, which they need to replace soon.
