'Star Wars: Rogue One' Releas Date, Cast News: Upcoming Film to Digitally Resurrect Peter Cushing?

Peter Cushing, the late English star who plays the evil Grand Moff Tarkin of the original 1977 Star Wars film, will be digitally recreated for the upcoming spinoff, "Star Wars: Rogue One."

The report from the Daily Mail (via Collider.com) said that in the new film, the critically-recognized actor will be resurrected using the latest of Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) technology.

Citing their source, it is said that bringing back Cushing, who died of prostate cancer in 1994, "is one of the most complex and costly CGI re-creations ever."

The informant however pointed out that the film is willing to undergo such painstaking job because "Cushing is a pivotal plot line as he was the one to create Darth Vader and there's a whole back story that will come out."

Despite the rapid advancement in imaging techniques, film-makers for "Rogue One" admits that re-creating Cushing's leg and feet was rather tough.

Daily Mail divulged that during the filming of the first Star Wars title, franchise creator and director George Lucas gave Cushing and the rest of the cast playing the Galactic Imperial officers some ill-fitting leather riding boots.

The BAFTA TV Awardee complained about the discomfort, forcing Lucas to let him wear slippers while doing his set of scenes. This eventually forced the cameramen to make adjustments when shooting for Cushing's parts. They did so by having him stand behind fixtures like conference tables.

"They are going through hours and hours of old footage from the horror movies to recreate his legs and feet to produce realistic movements," the insider went on to reveal (via DM). "It is eerie to see someone who has been dead for so long come to life on a screen."

"Star Wars: Rogue One," which opens on theaters December 16, 2016, is slated to feature the acts of Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Donnie Yen, just to name a few. Stay tuned for more updates.
