'Star Wars' Spin-Off Movie Casting Rumors, News: Aaron Paul to Join Project

Director Gareth Edwards will be making a spin-off movie based on the popular epic space opera franchise "Star Wars." The still untitled companion film will be released right after the JJ Abrams-helmed "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which will hit the theaters next December, and before Rian Johnson's "Star Wars Episode VIII."

Collider indicated that the standalone film will have an initial working title of "Luminac Industrial Goods." The film will delve into the life of young Han Solo, the reckless smuggler with a sarcastic wit.

Recent rumors now pointed out that "Breaking Bad" alum Aaron Paul (who plays Jesse Pinkman in the AMC TV series) is "looking to be attached" to the spin-off film "in some fashion." The statement, however, does not say that Paul will suit up as Han Solo.

GameNGuide.com speculated that while there's still no information on what role he will play, it is highly likely that "Paul will simply be another character." There's also the possibility that he could be one of the smuggler's companions during his heyday.

The 35-year-old "Need for Speed" actor recently portrayed a Luke Skywalker role in a live script read of the "Empire Strikes Back," which was directed by Jason Reitman.

"His [Paul] love for the series is not to be questioned and I'm sure he's geeking out just thinking about appearing in one of these movies, regardless of the role," GameNGuide reported.

The "Star Wars" spin-off is slated to open in theaters in Dec. 16, 2016.
