'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' News, Details: What is Known So Far

With less than ten months away from the release of the next episode of "Star Wars" now known as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm seem to be taking leaks about the plot and its characters seriously.

Felicity Jones while being interviewed during the Academy Award night could not confirm whether she was indeed cast for a role in a "Star Wars" spin-off.

"I can't talk about it. I'll lose my life," she told MTV News.

Early this month, as reported in Telegraph, Disney asked a judge to "issue a subpoena to a website called ImageShack" as the site allegedly posted a photo from one of the scenes in the movie – that of a masked Sith Lord with a red lightsaber. This scene is also seen in the film's first trailer.

Anticipation for the film is considerable, since the last "Star Wars" movie was shown in 2005 which marked the last of the prequel trilogy. But when Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, they also announced that they will be reviving the "Star Wars" franchise soon.

J.J. Abrams will direct and co-write the film. Michael Arndt wrote the screenplay but according to Cinema Blend, J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan of "Empire Strikes Back" handled the script once production started. The report also said that production started in May 2014 and wrapped up in November 2014. The film is currently undergoing post-production before its release on Dec. 18, 2015.

Confirmed cast members of the film include the original cast of the trilogy such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels, as they reprise the characters they played, but 30 years older.

New cast members have been confirmed as well. Daisy Ridley will play Rey, who is seen in the trailer riding a speeder in a desert world. The other character who figures prominently in the trailer is the stormtrooper Finn, who is played by John Boyega. The main antagonist in the film is Kylo Ren, pictured as the Sith Lord in the trailer. It is not confirmed if Adam Driver was cast to play this role. Oscar Isaac is said to be playing an X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron.

Beyond the list of characters, only rumors and unconfirmed reports have been circulating about the plot. What is known so far is that the film takes place 30 years after the events in the "Return of the Jedi."
