'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' News, Trailer: Who Is Supreme Leader Snoke Addressing in New Trailer?

The new "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" trailer finds Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) narrating throughout the clip. While the trailer initially makes it look like he is talking to Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), the person that he is addressing becomes increasingly uncertain as the video unfolds.

As the trailer opens, the voice of Snoke is heard saying, "When I found you, I saw raw, untapped power. And beyond that, something truly special." The clip then features a scene showing Kylo Ren standing alone with his mask and lightsaber, staring at the First Order fleet, First Order walkers, and the First Order troops. The sudden shift from Snoke's voiceover to Kylo Ren's scene makes it seem that the Supreme Leader is talking to Kylo Ren.

If past events in the "Star Wars" franchise are considered, Snoke addressing Kylo Ren does make sense. It can be recalled that in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," it was Snoke who discovered Kylo Ren. The film also followed him as he enticed the Force warrior to join the dark side of the Force.

Although it looks like Kylo Ren is the one that Snoke is talking to in the trailer, there are speculations that it's not him but Rey (Daisy Ridley). According to fans, some clues in the clip point to Rey being the one addressed by the Supreme Leader. For instance, the line "this raw strength" was emphasized in the trailer. While this could refer to Kylo Ren, it could also refer to Rey, primarily because in "The Force Awakens," Luke Skywalker also described Rey's strength as raw.

Towards the end of the video, Rey says "I need someone to show me my place in all this," but Kylo Ren suddenly appears and reaches back. Because the trailer features both Rey and Kylo Ren, and since Snoke's lines apply to the both of them, the person that the Supreme Leader is talking to in the trailer is still shrouded in mystery. However, it is also possible that he's talking to, not one, but both of them.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hits theaters on Dec. 15.
