'State of Decay 2' to Be Announced at E3 2017

"State of Decay 2" will be presented a few days before the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017. Undead Labs, creator of the game, confirmed that the presentation will be part of Microsoft's June 11 E3 briefing that will be held at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.

The sequel to the action survival stealth game was first announced during the E3 2016 held in June 14 to 16 last year. Since then, Undead Labs has regularly posted concept arts for the game but has not built on their previous announcement with any additional gameplay details. So far, what is known about the sequel is that it still takes place in a rural setting, and that the game will feature four-person cooperative multiplayer as one of its play modes.

Undead Labs chief executive officer (CEO) Jeff Strain shared some details with IGN  about the sequel. The game will be moving to a new and larger town compared to the first game: "I know SoD fans are hungry for details on number and size of maps, regions, kilometers of playable area, etc, but we're not quite ready for that. For now, suffice it to say that the playable area is substantially larger than State of Decay." The first title took place in an in-game world with a playable area of eight square kilometers.

Design director Richard Foge spoke more about the multiplayer co-op aspect of "State of Decay 2." The original game is a survivor town simulation, and bringing in other players are meant to add new dynamics to the narrative that a player has going in his or her settlement. "Your guests cannot just say 'screw it, I'm taking this to PvP-town!' and directly attack you or any of your community members, because State of Decay 2 isn't a PvP game," Foge adds.

This year's E3 will be the first time the expo has invited public attendees to the event. Microsoft, the publisher for the "State of Decay" series, will also be revealing news about their upcoming Project Scorpio platform.
