In a surprising move, Stephen Colbert apologized to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday night on "The Late Show."

Stephen Colbert had a chance to put Donald Trump on the hotseat during Tuesday's "The Late Show" episode, but he surprisingly apologized to the real estate mogul. The comedian who has been known for his outrageous remarks about Trump, also discussed the latter's position in various hot issues in the country, according to USA Today.

In 2012, Colbert offered to dip his balls in the GOP candidate's mouth in exchange for $1 million. His interview with Trump has been widely anticipated by all his fans, The Daily Beast reports.

"I want to apologize to you because I've said a few things about you over the years that are in polite company unforgivable," USA Today quotes Colbert's statement.

"And some nice things," Trump inserted.

Colbert, who replied with an "I don't think so" to Trump's interjection, said he hopes the billionaire will accept his apology. "The Late Show" host also asked Trump if he would like to apologize to anyone, but the GOP presidential candidate flatly declined, the report details.

"The Late Show" host then pretended to be the Mexican president and asked Trump to convince him to shoulder the costs for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, which is one of the things the real estate mogul has been promoting. At the end of the conversation, Colbert asked Trump if he thought U.S. President Barack Obama was indeed born in the country, but the GOP frontrunner avoided the question.

Another highlight in the night was when Colbert filled his mouth with Oreos right after Trump swore against the product. Oreo maker Nabisco is reportedly transferring some of its manufacturing activities to Mexico, the report adds.

All in all, Stephen Colbert's interview with Donald Trump was "entertaining and insightful." He successfully portrayed the episode as an enjoyable conversation for all its viewers.
