Stephen Hawking to Be on 'The Big Bang Theory'

The hit CBS comedy series "The Big Bang Theory" will have one of the most widely recognizable theoretical physicists in the world making a guest appearance on the show.

The physicist, Stephen Hawking, will appear in an episode that will be airing April 5 the network said Monday.

Bill Prady, co-creator and executive producer of "The Big Bang Theory," did hint at the possibility that Hawking would appear on the show when he posted these comments on Twitter last week. "On my way to shoot a scene with a super-secret, super-cool guest star for episode 521."

Hawking's appearance on the show will come just one week after another widely known guest star; Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy.

Prady explained that being able to get Hawking to be on the show had been something that he has been trying for a long time, but he thought it might never happen.

"When people would ask us who a 'dream guest star' for the show would be, we would always joke and say Stephen Hawking, knowing that it was a long shot of astronomical proportions," Prady said.

He continued: "In fact, we're not exactly sure how we got him. It's the kind of mystery that could only be understood by, say, a Stephen Hawking."

Hawking has been a mainstay in the scientific community for more than 40 years. His book "A Brief History of Time," was on the British Sunday Times bestseller list for a record 237 weeks.

Hawking has made appearances on animated television shows before. He has appeared on comedy cartoon "Futurama" and has played himself on a number of episodes of "The Simpsons."

According to CBS, in the episode that will feature Hawking, the physicist will run into the show's super-geek Dr. Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons, at work "to share his beautiful mind with his most ardent admirer."
