Sting injures neck in match against Seth Rollins on WWE's 'Night of Champions'

Veteran wrestler Sting sustained a neck injury during a match against Seth Rollins on Sunday's WWE "Night of Champions."

While the extent of Sting's neck injury is still unknown, Wrestling Observer's Dave Metlzer noted that the wrestler's injury was "significant." A day after WWE's Night of Champions, the WWE confirmed the injury but did not release any other updates, according to Fox Sports.

"Sting reportedly sustained an injury Sunday night during his WWE World Heavyweight Title Match against champion Seth Rollins," Fox quotes WWE's statement on Monday. "Check back with WWE.com for more details and updates on Sting's condition following Night of Champions."

After Rollins unleashed a "Buckle Bomb" on Sting, the 56-year-old wrestler looked "wobbly," Fox notes.
Sting reportedly hurt either his neck or his spine after Rollins' buckle bomb. His opponent had been going for a clothesline but Sting already collapsed to the floor, prompting trainers to rush forward and check him out. Because the referee did not put up the "X" signal, there are speculations regarding the authenticity of Sting's injury, Daily DDT reports.

Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer reported that Sting was rushed to the hospital after the show. Fortunately, the MRI result did not reflect any fracture but the wrestler "was not doing well," What Culture adds.

Although Sting does not participate in regular wrestling matches, he took on Seth Rollins in honor of WWE's Night of Champions on Sunday. Despite the injury he sustained from the blow, Sting was scheduled to appear on the next Raw episode. However, he had to go home and rest, so his opening segment announcement was scrapped.

The recent injury cast an unsure light on Sting's wrestling career. At his age, he will take a longer time to recover from any kind of injury. And because WWE confirmed that the neck injury is real, the pro wrestler will surely take some time off to allow his neck to fully recuperate.
