Storm Chasers Capture Breathtaking Close-Up Footage of Huge Tornado

Storm chasers, or chasers, as what they are often called, feel the excitement of running towards a tornado where normal people flee from it.

Most, but not all, chasers of today are equipped with special computers, anemometers (used for measuring gusts of wind), portable weather stations, and a wide variety of cameras when chasing a storm.

What started out as a bizarre practice in the '40s and '50s now grown exponentially through the years. In fact, there are a number of tour businesses that focus on giving people the thrill of storm watching. Among the recognized organizations include Oklahoma-based Cloud 9 Tours and Tempest Tours in Texas.

This storm-chase video, recently uploaded on YouTube via the AccuWeather channel, offers a close up video of a tornado. The sight would certainly make any viewers sweat on their palms as the force of nature takes form and ravages the field. Check it out below:

It doesn't take a scientist to know that storms are very dangerous. They have the capacity to destroy buildings and cause injuries or even death. But these people in the video seem like too eager to get an even closer look at the storm.

At some parts of the clip, one can even hear a crew member letting out laughter as they edge nearer to the vortex. It can be assessed that they are already about a few hundred meters away from it and it's really probable for them to get sucked in.

The footage was taken last week near Wray, Colorado. According to reports on that day, five people were injured during the onslaught of the storm. Several establishments were also damaged in the process.
