Study: Probiotics Useless Among Healthy Adults

The probiotics market is already a billion dollar industry, so when news comes in saying that those products that contain it actually are useless to healthy individuals, that right there is certainly a big issue.

Are you familiar with the term, how about yogurt, yogurt drinks, tablets and biscuits? Well, if you love all of them because they seem to make you healthier, you ought to know that they reportedly don't contain anything that makes you healthy.

According to a report from The Guardian, probiotics indeed help in digesting food, but they don't really give anything unique to healthy adults. A team of experts from the University of Copenhagen performed seven trials of products containing probiotics and figured out that there was evidence whatsoever on any positive effect on gut or stomach health for people ages 19 to 88.

According to research head, Oluf Pedersen, they recognize that there is some proof about probiotic interventions in people who has imbalances in their gut microbiota as a result of a specific disease. But for healthy people, there's no use for it, as per The Daily Beast.

However, the research team did admit that more study is required for them to finally dismiss the benefits of probiotics. It's a big industry right now, with several different products being introduced and endorsed even by medical professionals and food experts. And if ever more compelling evidence is produced, this could be very well the end of companies that make these products.

Although consuming probiotics-rich products does not harm people, it should be not long before its reported benefits are debunked. Majority of them are advertised to provide aid in digestion and can fight infections.

Also called as "friendly bacteria," probiotics are classified as live microbial food components that help in producing microbial balance in the intestines. The most popular foods containing it that are being sold in the market right now include yoghurt, sauerkraut, kefir, and miso.
