'Suicide Squad' Release Date, Cast News: Viola Davis Says Amanda Waller is 'Unapologetic'

Although she doesn't share the same media flare as what Jared Leto and Margot Robbie have with their casting involvement as The Joker and Harley Quinn "How to Get Away with Murder" lead star Viola Davis is enthusiastic about her casting as the tough Amanda Waller.

Speaking to reporters during the red carpet event at the annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, the star gave her reasons why she signed on for the role without any second thoughts.

"That she's Amanda Waller! That she's badass … She's unapologetic. Everything that I'm reading and studying about her: unapologetic, no humor, just brutal. That's me!" she said.

The 49-year-old Tony Award winner even went on to point out some aspects of the character that she would love to take on.

"Listen, she gets to use a gun … It's my fantasy. Now, I would never do that in life, but when I get a gun on a set, it does something to me," she said.

Created by writer John Ostrander in 1986, the ruthless and often intimidating government operative is tasked to lead a band of incarcerated villains who are employed by the U.S. government for "potentially deadly missions" in exchange for a reduced jail time.

To be directed by "Fury" helmer David Ayer, "Suicide Squad" will also feature the acts of Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney as Deadshot, Rick Flag, and Boomerang, respectively.

The film is slated to hit the theatres this August 5, 2016.
