'Suicide Squad' News: Karen Fukuhara On Doing Her Own Stunts; Margot Robbie Says Harley Quinn Is Codependent On The Joker

In "Suicide Squad," actress Karen Fukuhara plays the role of swordswoman Katana, one of the members of the Task Force X team created by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and led by Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman).

In a chat with ComicBook.com during the Big Picture presentation by Warner Brothers at the CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this month, Fukuhara spoke about doing her own stunts for the upcoming antihero ensemble. According to the actress, she learned all her choreography during pre-production for the film and the muscle memory she gained from her preparation enabled her to do all but one of her stunts as Katana.

In the interview, Fukuhara praised her stunt double and stunt coordinator and said: "I was able to do all of my own stunts except for one dive role, but all of my stunts. So, yeah, I got to run on top of a car, I did all of my sword work…"

The actress also gave some perspective into Katana, saying that the expert martial artist is a "protector" and a "fierce warrior" who is very loyal to Rick Flag and Amanda Waller, and who helps keep the rest of the squad in line.

Meanwhile, Fukuhara's "Suicide Squad" co-star Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, recently spoke about how she prepared for her role as the crazed former psychiatrist.

"I did a lot of research on mental illness and codependency," Robbie told Coming Soon. "I was trying to access a way in to understanding why she's so in love with the Joker. I kind of decided that she's codependent on him."

According to the actress, fans will see many different sides of Quinn in the film. There are times when the supervillain is really funny and other times when she is really mean. "Whether she's doing something good or bad, she'll have an equal amount of enjoyment out of it," the actress said, admitting that this means that Quinn isn't always the most likeable character.

"Suicide Squad" hits theaters August 5.
