'Super Smash Bros. 4' News: Following Addition of Final Fantasy 7's Cloud, Nintendo Direct Expected to Announce More Characters
Fighting video games, "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS" and "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U," collectively known as "Super Smash Bros. 4" is welcoming a new playable character in the person of Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7. Nintendo made the announcement during last week's Nintendo Direct. According to a report in IGN, the announcement came as a surprise mainly because Final Fantasy 7 has not appeared in any Nintendo systems before, so seeing one of its protagonists in the game is a first.
The trailer that was shown during the broadcast showed off Cloud's gameplay features which includes limit breaks, an Odin summon and another costume that harks back to Cloud's Advent Children look. One of the fight scenes featured in the trailer showcased a stage that looks like one from the city of Midgar, a familiar setting in the Final Fantasy 7. According to the report, Nintendo has not yet revealed when this character and setting will come to the game.
According to another report in Tech Times, "Super Smash Bros." has more to watch out for in December as the final Nintendo Direct in December will be focusing the episode on the game again. If fans go by how previous episodes went, the coming Direct may also feature the announcement of other characters. For example, Nintendo has not yet released the results of the online fan ballot for the characters that fans want to see in the game.

So far, the game has added four downloadable characters in 2015. Mewtwo was released in April 2015 while Lucas of "Mother 3," Roy of "Fire Emblem" and Ryu of "Street Fighter" were released in June 2015. Cloud Strife is the fifth downloadable character, but its price and release date is not yet known.
The 3DS version of the game has reportedly sold over 7 million copies worldwide, while the Wii U version has sold over 4 million copies worldwide as of September 30, 2015. Developed by Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco Games, they were published in 2014 by Nintendo for their two consoles, the 3DS and the Wii U.
