Super Smash Bros. 4 Release Date 3DS: October 3, 2014 - U.S. National Tournament on Oct. 4

"Super Smash Bros. Brawl 4" is an upcoming fighting game by Nintendo for the 3DS and Wii U console systems. The 3DS version is scheduled to come out in a few days on Oct. 3 while the Wii U version is scheduled for a Fall 2014 release, but Nintendo is still to announce an exact release date.

Instead of a singular fourth installment in the main Super Smash Bros. series, the 3DS and Wii U versions will represent the fourth and fifth installment of the franchise. Gameplay will still be similar to previous games in the series where four players will choose a character from a roster and use various attacks, techniques, and items to deal damage.

Unlike other fighting games, the objective of the players is to knock off their opponents from the playing field. A character's "health" is represented by percentages and the higher the percentage, the higher the chance that the player will be knocked off the field permanently.

The roster of characters available for players to use come from the various game titles that Nintendo has released from the time it was founded. Other third-party characters from Sega like Mega-Man and Sonic are also included in the roster.

Recently, Nintendo announced a nationwide U.S. 3DS tournament for Super Smash Bros. 4 players. The tournament is scheduled to start on Oct. 4, a day after the game launches and will take place across 15 GameStop stores across the nation.

The tournaments will feature three rounds of four-player battles. No pre-registration is required but the tournaments will be limited to 64 players and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Players can bring their own 3DS or 2DS and a copy of the game but the Gamestop stores will be equipped with its own host of game systems and copies of the games.

The champions for the 16 Gamestop tournaments will win a trip to New York City -- complete with airfare and hotel accomodations for two -- to participate in the Super Smash Bros. National Open Tournament at the Nintend World Store on Oct. 11. Winners of the local tournaments will also receve a 3DS XL, a copy of Super Smash Bros. 4 for the 3DS, and a $250 Visa Gift card.
