Swedish Church Unveils Lego Jesus

A Church in Sweden celebrated Easter in a rather unique way, unveiling a statue of Jesus Christ made entirely of Lego pieces.

Congregants at Oensta Gryta Church in Vaesteras donated almost 30,000 Lego pieces to construct the 5.8-foot high statue of Jesus, the exterior of which appears completely white, though other colors were used underneath.

Per Wilder, pastor of the church, said work on the statue began a year and a half ago and that the unveiling date - Easter Sunday -fit well.

"It is a fantastic installation and it will be there as long as we think it is in a good spot," he told Agence France-Presse.

"All those I spoke with were full of praise, saying how fantastic the model looks and how much good work we put into this," Wilder said.

The Lego Jesus was based upon the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsens's 19th century statue "Christus," which depicts the resurrection of Jesus.

Wilder said that the statue would remain in the church and that they had no intention of selling it to raise money.
